Harriet Rae Dunis (Honey) was born in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in a world of women readers. From earliest memory, all Honey wanted to do was write.
As a child, Honey Perkel spent her summer vacations in Seaside, Oregon, with her mom, grandmother, and uncle always making sure she packed in her suitcase a writing pad to jot down story ideas taking place in the small beach town.
That inspiration has never ceased.
After marrying Robert Perkel in June 1973, Honey continued to hone her writing skills as she had in high school and college, taking writing courses every chance she could. As a young mother, she graduated from The Institute of Children's Literature and The Long Ridge Writer's Group. Her big dream was to become an author, to see her novels in print.
Robert retired in 1999 and he and Honey became owners of The Emerald Rabbit, a gift basket company. For five years, they served over two dozen hotels in the Portland metro area and countless businesses and personal accounts with beautifully filled baskets created by Honey. They sold their company to spend more time at the coast.
In 2009, they bought a home in the hills above Seaside, where they now live with their Shi Tzu Sophie and Havanese Gracie, and
where Honey writes full time. Honey Perkel is an adjunct instructor teaching Independent Publishing and
Honey loves to cook and entertain her family and friends at their coastal home, volunteers in the community, and still feels the same thrill she did as a child when walking its sandy beaches. (Visit Honey's Blog for her favorite recipes.)
Honey believes in things that go bump in the night, past lives, spirit guides, and angels, and that belief touches her writing.
"Seaside is my Paradise," Honey Perkel says, "It's the only place I want to write."
